1960 April - September:

        Machine shop Apprenticeship in Douai, France ; then hitchhiking through

        France and staying in Geneva, Switzerland, to visit CERN.


September 1960:

        Enrolled in Physics at University of Stuttgart. Residing in Oberlenningen,

        (50 km north-west of Ulm, birthplace of Einstein), commuting by train to Stuttgart

        (95 km north-west of Ulm or 45 km north-west of Oberlenningen)

        One classmate, Ulf Merbold, later became first German astronaut in 1983.

May 1962:

        Parents and Brother, Novak (14), emigrate to Canada

        Zack (20) moves into Student dormitory, Rosenbergstrasse 68, Stuttgart

From 1964:

         Interpreter for immigrant workers with Landesarbeitsamt Stuttgart

         (Manpower), and

        Translator of technical papers with Translation Bureau Dr. Strassman

April 1967  

          Thesis on Thin Film CdS  Photovoltaic Cells, under Prof. Kluge,

           who founded Institut für Physikalische Elektronik, University of Stuttgart.


April 1969:

        German Master of Science Degree of University of Stuttgart & employment       

        as Prof. Kluge’s postgraduate researcher on InGaAs  Photovoltaic Cells and on

      Thermionic Converters for portable nuclear generators.


Sept. 1970    Immigration to Canada.
